A structure fire Friday evening left a house completely destroyed. According to the Paintsville Fire Dept. firefighters responded to a house fire in Paintsville around 5 p.m. Friday on Madison Avenue between 7th and 8th street, across from the Paintsville City Pool. Paintsville Fire Chief Rick Ratliff said firefighters arrived on scene within minutes and immediately started their fight to control the blaze and try to keep the fire from spreading to an apartment complex on one side of the house. He also said they quickly put out a fire at an adjacent house while they battled the blaze on the outside of the structure, then focused their attention inside. Reports indicated that firefighters had to evacuate the main structure because part of the roof collapsed. Chief Ratliff said no one was inside the structure at the time of the fire, but the house was a complete loss. A vehicle was also destroyed by the fire. Chief Ratliff said they are investigating the cause of the fire, but they do not believe it to be suspicious. Fire crews were on scene for several hours. Assisting the Paintsville Fire Dept. were members of the West Van Lear VFD and W.R. Castle Fire and Rescue. The Oil Springs VFD also manned the Paintsville Fire Dept. in case of any other calls in the city and Trans-Star Ambulance Service covered any emergency runs.
