2 School Bus Accidents in Letcher Co.

* According to reports out of Letcher Co., two separate School Bus crashes occurred Wednesday morning. The first incident happened at the intersection of KY 15 and KY 931 in front of Rite Aid. Whitesburg Police Chief Tyrone Fields reported the school bus was getting ready to turn onto the Highway 15 Bypass when a Jeep ran a red light and hit the bus head-on. Chief Fields added that there were no students on the bus at the time of the crash, but the bus driver and a bus monitor were both taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Three people were reportedly inside of the Jeep and all three were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Whitesburg Police Department are continuing to investigate.

* A second bus crash happened Wednesday morning as well on Kingdom Come Creek Road in Whitesburg. School officials told WYMT there was mud on the road, due to recent flooding and the bus slid off the road and overturned into a creek. Reports indicate 11 students and the driver were on the bus at the time of the incident, but no one was injured. No additional information has been made available at this time.
