
According to an official release from the KSP in Morehead, on March 20, 2018 the Kentucky State Police Post 8 in Morehead was notified of a collision on the Mountain Parkway involving a commercial vehicle and a passenger car. During the investigation, it was determined that Alvin Appleby, 71, of Elkhorn, KY., was traveling westbound on the Mountain Parkway in a commercial vehicle. Mr. Appleby attempted to make a U-turn in the median. Another vehicle driven by Lisa Hurley, 39, of Salyersville KY., was also traveling westbound on the Mountain Parkway when she struck the trailer of the commercial vehicle that was operated by Mr. Appleby. Ms. Hurley was transported to Clark Regional Hospital where she was pronounced deceased by Clark County Deputy Coroner Sarah Snowden. The Kentucky State Police was assisted by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Powell County Sheriff Department, Powell County EMS and Powell County Fire Department. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Jason Brown.
