Local and federal investigators are on the scene after a large explosion Wednesday morning hit a Lexington UPS facility, injuring eight people.
The explosion occurred around 7:40 AM Wednesday at the company’s maintenance facility on Blue Sky Parkway.
Officials said two people were taken to the hospital and were in listed in fair condition at last report and six other people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries or as a precaution.
Officials say the injured suffered burns as well as “concussion-type injuries.
Early reports indicate that an acetylene tank on a tractor-trailer inside the facility exploded.
The blast appeared to be accidental, however, Police and Agents with the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives later said it was unclear whether a tank had exploded and were investigating the case.
The explosion caused significant structural damage and crews are working to determine the overall safety of the structure.
