UK Mens Basketball

Patric Young scored 18 points in his final home game and No. 1 Florida defeated 25th-ranked Kentucky 84-65 on Saturday. Julius Randle, led the Wildcats with 16 points and 10 rebounds. James Young added 14 points, and Aaron Harrison chipped in 10. The loss drops UK’s record to 22-9 overall, 12-6 SEC.

UK did show some fight in the 2nd half, after trailing by 22 pts at the break. Kentucky used a 15-0 run to cut the lead to six pts, but the Gators responded, like experienced teams do and pushed the lead back up and never allowed the CATS back in it. Next up for Kentucky is the SEC tournament, which they will play a team TBD at 7 PM.

UK Women’s Basketball

After upsetting South Carolina Saturday in the SEC women’s tournament, the University of Kentucky women’s basketball team faced off with their longtime rivals Tennessee for the SEC Championship Sunday afternoon. Meighan Simmons scored 17 points for UT, including two go-ahead free throws with 1:45 remaining, and No. 6 Tennessee edged 12th-ranked Kentucky 71-70 to claim the title.

Kentucky (24-8) played in its fourth final in the last five years but still hasn't won the tournament since 1982. DeNesha Stallworth led the Wildcats with 21 points.

State Schools

Congratulations to the EKU Colonels men’s basketball team on winning the OVC Men’s Championship, with a 79-73 upset over Belmont, to earn a trip to the NCAA post season tournament. The Colonels (24-9) won their seventh straight game and clinched their first OVC tournament title since 2007 and their eighth trip to the NCAAs overall.
