Sat. Games:

Congratulations to the Johnson Central Lady Eagles softball team on winning the 2012 15th region softabll tournament from Pikeville H.S. In what turned out to be one of the best softball games one would ever want to witness, the Lady Eagles would score 3 runs in the top of the 14th inning to get by a very determined and gutsy East Ridge team. The final score was, Johnson Central 6 vs.East Ridge 3 in 14 innings. JC held a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th, but East Ridge was able to score the tying run and the marothon began. JC had a couple of chances throughout the extra innings, but time and time again, East Ridge was able to fight off elimination and extend the game. Not until the top of the 14th did JCHS finally put the game away to earn the victory and a trip back to Owensboro for the Rawlings/KHSAA State Softball Tournament, beginning Thursday, June 7. JCHS will be facing Owensboro Cath. in the 1st game on Thursday @ 8 PM local time. Here's is a complete bracket of this year's State Softball tournament. STATE SOFTBALL

Congratulations to JC players: Cassandra Hall, Rachelle Fairchild and Logan Cline on your All-Tournament selection's and Chloe Blair for being named tournament MVP.

Friday Games:

The Paintsville Tigers baseball team gave a valiant effort Friday evening in the 15th Region Baseball Championship game, but eventually lost to Pikeville 4-1. Paintsville was making their first championship game appearance since 2006, (that year they lost to Sheldon Clark) and the Tigers where also looking for their first title since 2001. Pikeville would get on the scoreboard first in the top of the 1st inning and added 2 more in the top of the 3rd before Paintsville would finally get on the board with a run in the bottom of the 3rd, thanks to an RBI single from Senio Timmy Sublett, that drove in Matt Miller who had earned a walk earlier in the inning. But that run in the 3rd would be all the Tigers could musture up Friday night. Pikeville would get that run back in the very next inning and take a 4-1 lead, that proved to be the final score, giving the Panthers their 2nd title in the past 3 season's. Paintsville would finish with 1 Run on 5 Hits, they committed 0 Errors and left 6 on Base. Pikeville had 4 Runs on 8 Hits, committed 1 Error and stranded 6 on Base. Paintsville Timmy Sublett went the distance on the mound going 7 strong innings, striking out 4 and walking 3 batters. Paintsville finished the season 15-17, but return the majority of their team next season.

Pikeville will move on to the 2012 National Insurance/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament from Lexington, beginning today. The Panthers will face Bishop Brossart @ 6pm tonight in round 1.
