* The Kentucky Wildcats earned a no.1 seed in the NIT -- Virginia, Alabama and Southern Miss are the other no. 1 seeds. Kentucky will play at no. 8 Robert Morris on Tonight at 7:30 pm (ESPN). According to a press release from Coah Cal "We did not place a bid to host the first round of the NIT due to limited staff availability to properly host a game at Memorial Coliseum. Because the University of Kentucky is hosting the NCAA second- and third-round games at Rupp Arena on March 21 and 23, the facility was not available for a first-round NIT game. We placed a bid to host both the second round and quarterfinal games at Rupp Arena if we advance." Kentucky last played in the NIT in 2009 (22-14, 8-8 SEC). Billy Gillispie took the Cats to the quarterfinal round where they lost to Notre Dame, 77-67. John Calipari has since taken the Cats to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments. If the CATS win tonight, they will play at Rupp Arena on Sunday TBA.
* Despite missing the final eight games of the season, Nerlens Noel is part of the All-SEC first team announced Monday by The Associated Press. Georgia sophomore Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has been named player of the year, Florida's Billy Donovan was named as coach of the year and Mississippi's Marshall Henderson as newcomer of the year.
Other State Notes:
* Louisville men's bsketball team has earned the top overall seed in the NCAA tournament, as announced on Sunday. The No. 4 Louisville Cardinals (29-5) that got the overall top seed after sharing the Big East regular-season title, then pulling off a stunning comeback to beat Syracuse in the conference tournament final. They will begin play in Lexington @ Rupp Arena on Thursday.
