According to the Prestonsburg Police Dept/ Officers were involved in a high speed chase earlier this week, after a woman took off from Officers when they were trying to conduct a traffic stop. Officers were attempting to make a traffic stop after a vehicle had ran a red light near Wal-Mart on route 114. When Officers tried to pull the vehicle over it sped away, turning onto US 23 and reaching speeds of up to 100 miles an hour. The female driver went into the curve right at the top of the hill at Tiger Mart in Prestonsburg on US 23, when she cut the wheels to the right and lost control of her vehicle, striking the guard rail on the northbound shoulder. She then crossed all northbound lanes of travel, all the southbound lanes of travel and onto the southbound shoulder where she struck a tree. She then exited the vehicle and fled about 100 yards on foot until Officers were able to apprehend her after she jumped over a hill side near the mouth of Big Branch of Abbot. Police arrested 37-year old Leann Shortridge. She was charged with DUI, 2-counts of fleeing and evading police and other traffic violations.
