Two people were flown to Pikeville Medical Center Monday evening following a head-on collision on Rt 40 West in the Staffordsville community. According to Deputy Danny Martin with the Johnson Co. Sheriff’s Office, Paintsville/Johnson Co. got a call around 7 PM about a 2 vehicle crash near the entrance of the Spillway. When emergency crews arrived on scene, they found 2 Chevrolet Trucks had collided and had blocked both lanes of Rt 40 West. Deputy Martin said a female driver was traveling toward Paintsville and collided with a vehicle driven by a male, who was traveling toward Salyersville. The impact did major damage to both vehicles. Both the female and male were injured and were flown out to Pikeville Medical Center for treatment. Deputy Martin said the injuries appeared to be non-life threatening. The names of the injured has not been officially released at this time. Both lanes of Rt 40 West were shut down for about 2 hour’s while emergency crews worked the scene. Members of the Oil Springs VFD, Paintsville Fire and EMS responded to the scene. Deputy Danny Martin is the investigating Officer.
