A second person has died from injuries sustained in a DUI crash from last weekend in Letcher Co.
According to the Kentucky State Police Kathleen Tackett died Wednesday night at Pikeville Medical Center.
She was one of three people inside a car that was hit by a truck on May 5.
Reports indicate that 66-year-old Judy Kiser of Pikeville was driving a 2008 Toyota Yaris along U.S. 119 in Letcher Co, when 37-year-old Franklin Travis Helbert of Appalachia, Va. lost control of his 1999 Chevrolet Silverado and crashed into Kiser’s vehicle.
Barbara Newsome and Kathleen Tackett were passengers in the car.
Newsome died at the hospital shortly after the crash.
Franklin Travis Helbert has been charged with DUI 2nd-offense, manslaughter 2nd-degree, two counts of assault 1st-degree, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
It is unknown at this time if he will face additional charges in relation to Tackett’s recent death. Helbert is being held in the Letcher Co Detention Center.
