Tragic news out of Martin Co., as the Martin Co Sheriff’s Office said a 14-year-old boy was killed in a bicycle accident Tuesday evening. According to Sheriff John Kirk, the accident happened on Poplar Fork Road near the Beauty area of Martin Co. Sheriff Kirk reported that the boy and a family member were riding their bikes about 8:30 PM down a steep hill when the 14-year-old lost control. The bike apparently did not have brakes and the boy was said to likely been traveling between 50 and 60 mph when he crashed into a metal drain pipe in the creek. The family member who was with the boy had brakes on their bike and was able to slow down, but lost sight of the boy. The family member then could not locate the boy and went home and told other family members, who also searched for the boy, but could not find him. Sheriff Kirk said the family reported the boy missing about 1 AM Wednesday morning and a Deputy went to the last area the boy had been seen and found his body. The boy’s name has not been officially released at this time, but Sheriff Kirk says he attended Martin Co Middle School.
