Officials with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office say they can no longer collect taxes.
In a public Facebook post on Friday afternoon, the sheriff’s office stated that the vendor who supplies the office’s tax collecting program has not been paid by the fiscal court, and the company has suspended their service to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office notes that this will impact all taxing districts such as Warfield City, Inez City, the health department, the school board, the extension office as well as the library and the fire and 911 districts.
The bill regarding the tax program is apparently one of many which remain unpaid, as reports suggest even more unpaid bills are threatening to shut down the entire department.
We will bring you the latest as the story unfolds.
