The man accused of murdering three people near the Martin/Pike Co line will soon be heading back to Kentucky.
On Wednesday, June 6, Lance J. Ward, 28, waived an extradition hearing in West Virginia.
Police said Ward is the person responsible for shooting and killing Derek James, Amber Lockard and Micah Sammons back in March.
Ward was indicted by a grand jury last month.
Since being indicted on May 3, Ward has been held in West Virginia on an unrelated charge.
The bodies were discovered on March 23 on a strip mine site on what is known as Golf Branch, located inside Martin Co near the Martin/Pike Co. line on Ky 292.
Derek James, 26, of Huddy (Pike Co) and Micha Sammons, 20, of Kimper (Pike Co) were both found deceased at the scene, while Amber Lockard (a.k.a. Amber Bates), 31, was still alive, but died a few days later at an area hospital.
