State Route 172 at mile point 8.405 in Johnson County will be closed most of the day tomorrow due to road work. This is near Stapleton Branch.
D12 Engineer Tim Spencer said the Johnson County maintenance crew will replace a collapsed cross drain that runs under the pavement. The pavement must be sawed and opened to remove the damaged cross drain, the new drain installed and covered, and the pavement replaced. The work will take most of the day, starting about 8 a.m.
“The road will be cut open,” Spencer explained, “to allow access through a trench across both lanes of pavement. There is no way to let traffic through while work is under way. Everyone is usually very understanding and patient with us because people know that this work is necessary to improve drainage and make the roadway safer. We thank you for your patience. We will work as quickly as safety allows.”
