Artists Collaborative Theatre (ACT) excitedly welcomes its summer production to the stage with the opening of Send Me No Flowers. This quirky comedy runs June 21st through July 15th. Some may recall the motion picture starring Rock Hudson, Doris Day, and Tony Randall which grossed over $9 million after its 1964 release.
In this classic 1960’s comedy, hypochondriac George Kimball thinks he is dying when he overhears his doctor discussing the imminent death of another patient. He decides to meet the end bravely and keep the secret from his wife, who becomes suspicious of his odd behavior and decides that a mistress is the cause! George puts his affairs in order: writing a heartbreaking letter to be read as his eulogy, arranging a good second husband for his soon-to-be widow, and even securing a cemetery plot for three: himself, his wife and the new future “Mister Kimball!”
Send Me No Flowers, written by Norman Barasch & Carroll Moore, will be directed by long-time ACT actor and current University of Kentucky student Treyton Blackburn. A Pike County native, Blackburn has added many acting and directing roles to his resume while in college, including becoming the first undergraduate student in recent history to direct a main stage production for the UK Department of Theatre & Dance.
