According to the KSP in Pikeville, a section of US 23 in Prestonsburg was closed Thursday for a short time due to a coal spill. Officials said the northbound lanes were blocked just past the KY 114 exit in Prestonsburg after a coal truck “lost some of its load” and failed to stop when the spill occurred. The driver of the truck has not been identified. No injuries were reported. The Kentucky State Police, Prestonsburg Police, Prestonsburg Fire and KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement helped at the scene. The Kentucky Highway Department cleaned up the coal spill.
