According to reports, the mayor of Somerset has been accused of hitting a juvenile with his car and then leaving the scene. Kentucky State Police say the collision happened Sunday evening at South Maple Street in Somerset. Troopers say that a juvenile was riding a bike and was hit by a vehicle, which then drove away. The investigation led Troopers to identify the driver as Somerset Mayor Edward Girdler. Girdler was cited to Pulaski District Court for the charges of leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid or assistance. The juvenile was taken to the Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center in Somerset, then airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Police are still investigating the collision.
