Around 2 PM Friday, Johnson County Jailer Doug Saylor notified Post 09 Mr. Curtis had contacted him and stated he would turn himself in to him.
A Trooper was dispatched to go with the jailer as a precaution.
Mr. Curtis was located around the area of the old highway garage on KY rt. 172 in Johnson County.
He was taken into custody with no incident, and is now lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
The Kentucky State Police in Pikeville and the Johnson Co. Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate a deadly shooting that happened Monday, August 27 in the Volga community of Johnson Co.
Paintsville/Johnson Co 911 received a call around 7:50 PM Monday (8-27-2018) about a shooting at a home on Dixon Branch.
When Law Enforcement arrived at the scene they located a deceased male identified as Mike Jones, 58 years old from Flat Gap, who was killed by gunshot.
The victim was pronounced deceased by the Johnson Co. Coroner’s Office.
KSP issued an arrest warrant last week for Walter Lee Curtis of Flatgap.
Attempts to locate Curtis have been unsuccessful at this time, but the KSP and the Johnson Co. Sheriff’s Office are continuing to follow up on tips and leads that might lead to an arrest.
