The following is a release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 12:
Wednesday and Thursday next week, October 3 and 4, Highway District 12’s Minnie Maintenance crew will replace 60 feet of 72-inch drain pipe on KY 979 at the mouth of Burley Kidd Road. The mile points are 15.9 to 16.0. The road will be closed all day Wednesday, Wednesday night, and most of the day on Thursday.
“We have to cut through the pavement and make a rectangular trench to get the old drain out,” Superintendent Garland Rogers explained. “Then the new drain pipe is placed into the trench. It is a wide open trench clear across the road. If anyone tried to drive over it, they would crash and fall in. That’s why we have to close the road.”
Rogers said the work was scheduled during Floyd County Schools Fall Break so that it won’t interfere with school bus traffic. “We know this is an inconvenience for people. The road will only be closed right at the work zone and only as long as necessary. I really want to thank everyone who drives this road for their understanding and patience. I promise we will work as fast as safety allows.”
