A former Boyd Co teacher, accused of having a sexual relationship with a student, was sentenced earlier this week, to two years in jail.
Michael Sammons, 53 of South Shore, pleaded guilty in August to using an electronic communications system to procure a minor.
Court records showed that a rape charge was dropped against Sammons, as part of the plea deal.
The original charges were filed in March 2017 after a Boyd Co High School student told a faculty member that he or she had witnessed a fellow female student getting out of Sammons’ vehicle at a gas station on Route 180.
An investigation subsequently led to the charges filed against the Sammons.
Sammons was in his first year as a mathematics teacher and coach at Boyd Co when the incident occurred.
He had been a teacher and coach for over 20 years, and was previously employed in Greenup and Portsmouth, Ohio school systems.
