According to the Johnson Co. Sheriff Deputy Tim Clark, at approximately 9 PM on Monday, Oct 29, the Johnson Co Sheriff’s Office and Johnson 911 received a report from Indianapolis (IN) Air Traffic Control regarding three commercial aircraft being struck by a green laser light. Deputy Clark said the pilots of these planes reported the laser originating approximately 5 miles south of an airport near Paintsville which appears to be the Big Sandy Regional Airport. The laser was able to strike the aircrafts at the approximate altitude of 34,000 feet. Law enforcement agencies from the surrounding area where notified of this incident, as well as the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). Upon further investigation of this incident, Officials believe the laser strikes may have originated somewhere in the area near Ky. Rt. 194 in Floyd Co. Officials say no injuries have been reported regarding aircraft personnel. If anyone has any information regarding these acts, please notify the Johnson Co Sheriff’s Office or your local law enforcement agency. Any information will be forwarded to the Federal Aviation Administration.
