According to a news release from the Prestonsburg Police Dept., on Thursday, November 8, 2018 Sergeant Ross Shurtleff was on patrol on US 23 near Kentucky 80 when he observed a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling south bound driving erratically. As Sgt. Shurtleff followed the vehicle, the vehicle abruptly stopped on the shoulder of the roadway. Shortly after, Sgt. Shurtleff was able to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and learned that the operator, Jimmy Engle of Knott County was driving on a license that had originally been suspended for multiple DUI convictions and two prior driving on a DUI suspended license convictions. During the stop, Engle acted very nervous and Sgt. Shurtleff noticed a new Caterpillar RP5500 generator in the back of the jeep with DeanBuilds marked several times on it and two locking security cables still attached to it. Through investigation, Sgt. Shurtleff was able to determine that the generator had just been stolen from a DeanBuilds work truck at Quality Inn in Prestonsburg and was able to have the company representative identify the stolen property and return it to them. Jimmy Engle was lodged in the Floyd County Detention Center on charges of Driving on DUI Suspended License 3rd Offense, Failure to maintain insurance, 2nd Offense, and Theft By Unlawful Taking over $500.00.
