According to a post on their Facebook page, Lawrence Co. Emergency Mgmt. were notified early Tuesday morning from the Kentucky EOC of a large diesel spill in the community of Vansant, Virginia at happened Monday night, as a fuel tanker crashed on US 460. Virginia authorities and first responders were able to prevent the majority of the spill from reaching the river, however, some did make it to the Levisa head waters. LCEM alerted Louisa Water to begin monitoring their intakes closer than normal in case any of the fuel reaches this far north. Officials with the NWS office determined that the earliest the Louisa Water plant could be impacted would be late Tuesday night, but more likely Wednesday into Thursday. At this time everything is proceeding as normal and there are no concerns with the water quality at this time.
